Stuart Clark will no longer be coming to Kent as their overseas player for the first half of the 2010 season. Clark, 34, has recently returned to Australian domestic cricket after missing nearly three months with a back injury, and the county decided against taking a chance on his fitness.The county has released a statement indicating that Clark “is not where the club wants him to be fitness-wise so the decision has been reached that it is not worth the risk, on either part, in proceeding with the contract.””I’m very disappointed that Stuart is not coming to Kent because he offers so much – both on and off the field,” said Paul Farbrace, Kent’s team director. “I would like to thank him for his honesty throughout as it made the decision that much easier.”Clark has represented Australia 24 times in Test matches, taking 94 wickets at a miserly 23.86, but was discarded after Australia’s unsuccessful Ashes campaign last year. While conceding that his international career is in all likelihood over, he had identified a county stint as a new career objective and has also captained his state side – the New South Wales Blues – in the absence of regular skipper Simon Katich.”We are continuing to work on other options, as we have been for the last couple of months,” added Farbrace. “We had someone lined up, as a possible alternative, but he has just been named by his country in their World Twenty20 squad. We are looking for someone that will offer value for money, and is the right type of individual to bring into our dressing room, but won’t sign someone for the sake of it.”

ويختتم الأهلي استعداده لمباراة الاتحاد المنستيري في الخامسة مساء غد على ملعب التتش.

ويسعي الأهلي لحسم بطاقة التأهل إلى دور المجموعات في دوري أبطال إفريقيا عندما يخوض مباراة إياب دور الـ32 أمام الاتحاد المنستيري في السادسة مساء السبت المقبل.

Everton have had a rather dismal season in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez with just five wins, four draws and nine defeats under their belt after 18 games played.

One figure that hasn’t been a particular regular player for the Toffees in the league this season that has failed to impress on the occasions that he has played is midfielder Andre Gomes.

With just seven league appearances and two starts under his belt in this current campaign, Gomes has only managed to earn himself an overall performance rating of 6.2/10 from WhoScored, making him the lowest-rated Everton player to have started more than one league game.

Despite scoring a goal and putting in a respectable performance in their recent FA Cup win over Hull City at the weekend, one good outing against a Championship club may not be enough to convince the fans that he’s good enough to continue in an Everton shirt, even though his current contract at Goodison Park isn’t set to expire until the summer of 2024.

Having been linked with a move to Benfica during the previous summer transfer window, Gomes’ days at Everton could be numbered if he doesn’t fix up his form in the Premier League and help the team turn their fortunes around throughout the remainder of the season.

With the Goodison Park outfit reportedly interested in Manchester United’s 20-year-old midfielder James Garner, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and was part of the team that beat Arsenal in the FA Cup, this potential move could pave the way for Rafa Benitez to axe Gomes and replace him with a young prospect that could be a long-term figure for the Toffees.

Labelled as an “aggressive” player on the pitch by Red Devils midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Garner has proven himself to be more of a useful midfield option for Forest than Gomes has for Everton this season with the loanee racking up a higher average of passes per game and pass succession than the Portuguese international has managed to do in the Premier League according to WhoScored.

While it could be seen as a risk to sign the youngster when his loan deal at Forest ends in the summer given his small amount of experience in the Premier League, it could end up being a risk worth taking for Benitez if he can push Gomes out the door and hit the ground running at Goodison. Should that happen, then the Everton manager will have undoubtedly struck gold in the transfer market.

One of the major concerns for Kings XI Punjab ahead of the third season of the IPL is a long injury list, but they will be relieved that Yuvraj Singh, one of their most important players, is likely to be fit in time for the first game against Delhi Daredevils.Yuvraj tore a ligament in his left wrist in late January and missed the second Test against Bangladesh and the entire series against South Africa that ended two days ago. He had been to Australia last week for treatment and is now looking forward to resuming batting. “I will start batting in three days,” he told Cricinfo. “It’s been five weeks (since the injury), so yes, I should be good for the first game.”Punjab were one of the best teams in the inaugural IPL, cruising into the semi-finals, but had a tough time in the second season, affected by the injuries to fast bowlers Sreesanth and Jerome Taylor, and the unavailability of Australian players for much of the competition.Yuvraj has targeted at least a semi-final spot this year, and believes one of the keys to a strong performance will be having the entire squad fit and available for the tournament. “We had a good first year, made the semi-finals easily when we had our full bench of players,” he said. “So if we have our full bench of players not injured, we have a good chance of going through to the semi-finals.”They have several important players struggling for fitness, though. Many Aston Villa fans slammed Tyrone Mings during their Premier League clash with Everton on Saturday afternoon. 

Villa travelled north on the back of a disappointing four-game winless run, though they did rally from two goals down to draw with Manchester United last weekend.

Skipper Mings started alongside Ezri Konsa in the heart of Steven Gerrard’s defence at Goodison Park. He’s started all but two league games for The Villans so far in 2021/22.

Mings was guilty of losing possession 19 times during the game, with less than half (five) of his 13 long passes finding their intended target (via SofaScore).

Overall, he only completed 29 of his 45 passes, an accuracy of 64%. Mings also lost 60% of the ground duels he contested against The Toffees and picked up a yellow card.

Shortly before half time, the Englishman was guilty of gifting Everton a corner after passing the ball straight out of play. That prompted fansite 7500 to Holte to accuse the captain of being ‘lazy’.

ScorecardWith a name like Lenert van Wyk he might be mistaken for a long-since departed Dutch master, in reality he is a strapping 20-year-old batsman that the bowlers of Sussex will hope never to see again after he cracked an unbeaten 156.Van Wyk made his domestic MTN40 debut for the Cape Cobras first string at Newlands last November in a six wicket win over the Dolphins. Sadly, the young right-hander with shoulders befitting a rugby union centre was not required to bat that night against Graham Ford’s franchise side as the likes of Herschelle Gibbs, Justin Ontong and Justin Kemp went in ahead of him. Sussex had no such luck.Chasing a respectable total of 271 for 9 at the Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, van Wyk produced a stunning innings to see his side home to a shock seven-wicket win with eight balls to spare. He enjoyed two let-offs before reaching 50, the second of which was a skier lost in the floodlights by mid-off fielder Will Beer, but after that van Wyk reigned supreme with a show of power hitting that left Sussex chasing shadows.He hit 16 fours and five sixes in his 129-ball innings, winning the game with an off-driven boundary off Ragheb Aga who, three balls earlier, had also conceded the six that took van Wyk to his 150.In tandem with diminutive third-wicket partner Yaseen Vallie (78) he helped add 189 and ensured their side recovered from a rocky start of 7 for 2 to record their second dramatic win of the tour against an English county.Earlier, the Sussex top order never really made the best of ideal bating conditions as Chris Nash (39), Andrew Hodd (24), Michael Yardy (29) and Ben Brown (20) all got themselves out after promising starts.Their blushes were saved, albeit temporarily, by a seventh-wicket stand worth 96 between Aga (58) and Ollie Rayner (56) but when both fell in quick succession the run rate dropped in the crucial closing overs leaving the door to victory ajar for the rookie Cobras.Thanks to van Wyk’s mastery of the lofted straight drive, the Emerging Cobras simply beat the door down to win with ease and send Sussex back to their team hotel to contemplate a second straight defeat on this 10-day pre-season tour.
