Arindam Das, according to many, is probably the best thing to have happened to Bengal cricket after Sourav Ganguly. The youngster has already proved his talent in the domestic season. Now he is all set to fly to the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy at Adelaide in Australia for a stint of coaching. The Cricket Association of Bengal is sponsoring the entire trip.Das’ performance this season looks quite impressive. In 30 innings he played at various levels, Das has scored over 2,000 runs. He has an average of 100-plus in the Under-22 competition and 58.20 in the Cooch Behar Trophy. Nicknamed `Don’ by his colleagues the young Das is the first one to blush about it. “The name was given to me when I was three years old. It’s not meant to belittle anybody,” is his first comment. He has another one to offer after much prompting. “If Sourav Ganguly can make it to the top from Bengal, I am confidentthat I will also be able to do so. I am not one to crib about practice and other facilities.” Das started taking lessons in cricket when he was only six from former Bengal cricketer Pranab Nundy. He is also indebeted to Gopal Bose for giving him valuable batting lessons. As Bose said today, “Cricket is all about three Ts. Talent, Technique and Temperament. He has all the ingredients to don the national colours.”Das would have made his debut in the senior Bengal side this season itself. However his engagements with the Under-19 side in the series against England prevented him from earning his maiden Ranji Trophy cap. However, he has no regrets. “I will get it when the opportunity comes,” is his shy reply. He believes that the coaching stint at Australia will benefit him tremendously. “As an opener I will have the chance to play pace bowlers. Here one only gets the chance to play spinners on slow turners. So my confidence against fast bowlers will definitely increase.” He also feels that there is not much of a difference in the domestic and international cricket that he hasplayed. “As a batsman my job is to play each ball on its merit. It does not matter whether I am playing at Lord’s or at a local cricket ground in Kolkata.” The bottom line for him however is hard work. “I can only work hard, score as many runs as possible and then leave the rest to God. My aim at the moment, is just that,” he concluded.

Jadson deverá perder sete partidas do Corinthians na temporada por conta de sua preparação especial, a começar pelo duelo contra a Caldense, pela Copa do Brasil, na última quarta-feira. Entre estes compromissos, clássicos contra Santos e Palmeiras pelo Campeonato Paulista.

Southampton’s hopes of signing Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong this summer have been given a huge boost after the Championship side reportedly lowered their asking price.

According to The Daily Mail, Tony Mowbray’s side will demand just £8m for the former Newcastle United man, with Southampton and Norwich City currently leading the race to sign him.

Previous reports have suggested that he could cost as much as £15m this summer but with the 24-year-old’s contract at Ewood Park set to expire at the end of next season, it seems as if the Lancashire side are keen to cash in rather than potentially losing him for nothing next summer.

The English striker enjoyed a superb campaign in the Championship last season, contributing 28 goals and five assists in 40 appearances in the second tier, averaging an excellent 7.15 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Considering this was more than Che Adams and Danny Ings would manage combined in the Premier League last season, you could definitely argue that Ralph Hasenhuttl needs to add a player of his firepower up front next season if he wants his side to avoid another relegation battle.

“He’s a boy really, but his explosive pace at the top end of the pitch allows you to play both ways, to not be overly concerned if you’re pinned back around the edge of your box because one pass releases pressure to someone like (Harvey) Elliott to play the pass that he can hit just leaving it in the space for the speed and dynamic movement of Armstrong – it’s a devastating effect for the team.”

This certainly marks him out as the sort of striker Hasenhuttl would favour in his 4-2-2-2 system at Southampton next season, so now that he is available at such a cut-price, there seems little reason why he couldn’t end up at St Mary’s this summer.

Birmingham City have been dealt a blow in their bid to keep Alen Halilovic at St. Andrew’s this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Croatian outlet NL, who claim that the 25-year-old attacking midfielder has received an offer from 1.HNL side HNK Hajduk Split, with whom the Blues player is reported to have been training with this week.

This news comes following a claim made by We Are Birmingham that revealed, despite Lee Bowyer’s side offering the midfielder a new deal at the club this summer, the two parties have so far failed to reach an agreement on terms.

Bowyer will be livid

Having joined Birmingham on a free transfer back in November last year, Halilovic went on to have something of a mixed campaign for the club, as, despite not scoring a great number of goals nor being overly productive in terms of assists, the Croatia international appeared to win the hearts of many Blues fans with his trickery and skill in the middle of the park.

Indeed, over his 17 Championship appearances last season, Halilovic scored just one goal, provided no assists and created no big chances for his teammates, with these returns seeing the 25-year-old earn a rather disappointing seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.65 – ranking him as Bowyer’s 19th-best performer in the second tier of English football.

Having said that, the single goal that the midfielder did bag was an exquisite 25-yard curling winner against Queens Park Rangers, highlighting the undoubted talent the Croat possesses.

However, with a new deal at St. Andrew’s now appearing an unlikely outcome, something that will certainly not have been helped by Hajduk’s reported offer, it seems that, despite the fans’ adoration and Bowyer’s faith in the midfielder, the former Barcelona man – dubbed a “phenomenal” talent by Miroslav Bicanic – will be moving on to pastures new once again this summer, an outcome that is sure to leave the 44-year-old Birmingham manager livid.

A delegação, que deveria deixar o aeroporto de Guarulhos (SP) na noite de sexta-feira, teve voo atrasado devido ao mau tempo. O elenco, que deveria estar em Curitiba às 18, só chegou 11h deste sábado.

Quem não gostou nada da mudança foi o Paraná. O diretor de futebol do clube, Rodrigo Pastana, afirmou em entrevista à Tribuna do Paraná, que o erro foi do Bahia e a partida deveria acontecer. Mas a decisão da CBF já tinha sido dada.
