Matt Targett’s impressive form for Aston Villa perhaps suggests that Southampton were unwise to sell him to the Birmingham-based club in the summer of 2019.

The Saints academy graduate ended his time with the club last year, as he joined Dean Smith’s Villa side in a deal worth £11.5m following Villa’s promotion to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old was in very solid form for the Villans last season, averaging a 6.86 rating across his 28 appearances in the top-flight (per WhoScored).

This was despite Villa only staying up on the final day and having one of the worst defensive records across the season, shipping 67 goals in the top-flight.

Targett’s individual performances have been slightly worse than last season thus far, with the defender having averaged a 6.71 rating across his seven appearances in the top-flight (per WhoScored).

However, he has started each of their seven games in the Premier League, which has seen the Villans win five times, keeping four clean sheets in the process, which suggests that they are a lot more defensively solid than last season, something which Targett should be praised for his part in.

During his time with the Saints, the left-back would make 63 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing six assists (per Transfermarkt).

The 25-year-old also showed his quality in a loan spell with Fulham in 2017/18, as he averaged a superb 7.20 rating across his 21 appearances in the second division (per WhoScored).

Considering Ralph Hasenhuttl’s lack of options at left-back at the moment, with Ryan Bertrand and Sam McQueen out injured, whilst Jake Vokins is perhaps a little too inexperienced to be starting in the Premier League at the moment, Targett could have been the perfect man to challenge Bertrand for a starting spot in the Saints squad.

The left-back was seemingly a popular member of the Saints dressing room too, with current captain James Ward-Prowse full of praise for Targett when speaking to Hampshire Live ahead of their game against Aston Villa in October, with the midfielder saying:

“Matt [Targett] is a great lad, I had lots of good memories and times with him here.

“A new challenge came for him and he has gone there and worked hard and sustained himself in the Aston Villa team, and I am pleased to see him doing so well.”

It will be interesting to see if the ace continues to impress with Villa and whether Southampton end up regretting letting him go in 2019.

Hoje, quase 30 anos depois, Romualdo, aposentado depois de acumular as atividades de juiz de futebol e como corretor de imóveis, é um pacato cidadão de Caldas Novas, interior de Goiás.
Ele nasceu em Santos-SP, em 7 de janeiro de 1939. Um dos árbitros mais importantes de sua época, começou a apitar em 1958, filiado à Federação Paulista. Em 1961, com apenas 22 anos de idade, entrou para o quadro da Fifa. Esteve presente em três Olimpíadas – Cidade do México-68, Moscou-80 e Los Angeles-84 – e entre tantas partidas importantes dirigiu as decisões do Brasileiro em 1984 – Coritiba 1 a 1 Bangu – e de 1985 – Fluminense 1 a 0 Vasco, ambas no Maracanã, e do Mundial Interclubes de 1984, em Tóquio, Independiente-ARG 1 a 0 Liverpool-ING.

Havia um folclore em torno de sua figura – muitos o chamavam de “rei do empate” – sugerindo que Romualdo apitava para agradar os dois lados. Mas se tal fato fosse verdade, ele jamais teria alcançado uma final de Copa. Na prática, nunca se deixou levar pela pressão do público

David Sullivan can end David Moyes’ search for a new striker at West Ham United by signing rumoured target Chelsea outcast Olivier Giroud in the winter market.

According to Calciomercato, the Irons are beginning to trail in the race to sign Giroud this winter with Inter Milan moving into pole position to sign the France international.

Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Miami and Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be keen on the 34-year-old, who came off the bench to seal Chelsea’s progression through to the knockout stages of the Champions League with the winning strike away to Stade Rennais on Tuesday night.

Blues boss Frank Lampard stated after the UEFA affair that Giroud’s impact as a late substitute proved why he is keen to keep the striker at Stamford Bridge, after the former Arsenal hitman hinted that he is worried over his lack of game time.

GSB can end Moyes’ search

With Moyes seemingly on the lookout for offensive weapons with reports linking West Ham with interest in Giroud and Olympique Lyonnais’ frustrated Moussa Dembele, GSB can end the Scottish coach’s search by landing the Chelsea outcast after he conceded he may have to secure a January move.

Giroud is proving himself to be far from at the end of his career by continually scoring when it counts the most, while netting six of his eight Premier League goals for last season in nine games played after the restart.

Those efforts included the winners against Aston Villa and Norwich City, the opener at Crystal Palace and a second in victory over Wolves, yet failed to prevent Giroud from falling down Lampard’s pecking order with the arrival of Timo Werner.

Former Arsenal full-back Gael Clichy still believes the striker can become an essential aspect of any side, too, having told Stadium Astro how the 105-cap international needs to leave Stamford Bridge for a team where he will be given the opportunities to play.

“Give him time and he will actually score goals – he will show that kind of profile in the team and within the group is essential. You want players that can create something, but you also want somebody who can hold the ball and score goals,” the ex-Arsenal full-back said.

“If you look at where he is in terms of goalscorers for France. He is seven goals behind [Thierry] Henry. And this is enough for everyone saying that he shouldn’t be there. If the manager of the national team is saying he needs game time to go to the Euros, then you need to go and you need to find a place for you can play.”

GSB can easily use Giroud’s outcast status to show how the London Stadium is the place for him, despite the striker being deemed “too good for West Ham” by Adrian Clarke in 2017 when the Hammers considered offering him a route away from the Emirates Stadium.

Após despontar no Coritiba, Willian Farias chegou à Toca da Raposa cercado de expectativa. Porém, seus dois anos no Cruzeiro foram marcados por sucessivas lesões, que comprometeram sua passagem.

Following his impressive performance in Leeds’ 1-0 win against Everton last time out, Marcelo Bielsa must consider unleashing Brazilian winger Raphinha in the Whites’ game against Chelsea on Saturday night.

The Yorkshire club travel to Stamford Bridge to face Frank Lampard’s side on Saturday, with the Blues having lost just once in the Premier League so far this season.

However, Bielsa’s side will surely be full of confidence after winning at Goodison Park in their last top-flight fixture, a game in which Raphinha scored the winner with his first goal in a Leeds shirt.

The 24-year-old joined from Rennes during the summer and has made five appearances for the Whites thus far, with only two of those appearances starts.

Therefore, Bielsa may be tempted to go with the tried-and-tested Helder Costa on the wing for the game against Chelsea but after Raphinha’s impressive performance last time out, which earned him a 7.57 rating, he must be rewarded with another start against Lampard’s side.

Costa started the season well for Leeds, with the Portuguese winger impressive in wins against Fulham and Aston Villa in particular but he has been inconsistent at times and has only one goal contribution in his last seven games.

Bielsa was full of praise for the £16.2 million-rated Raphinha during his pre-match press conference earlier in the week, saying:

“He’s a player with a capacity to unbalance a team individually. Every one of his physical qualities are good. He’s a dynamic player, who’s not difficult for him to go forward and come back or to get in behind and defend. The characteristics of the team coincide with his way of playing.” (per Leeds Live)

Therefore, it seems as if the Argentinian has a lot of faith in the Brazilian’s creativity, and perhaps he can be the man to unlock this Chelsea defence, with Edouard Mendy having kept seven clean sheets in his last nine games for the club.

It will be interesting to see how Bielsa sets his side up for what will undoubtedly be a very tough game for the Whites on Saturday night.

Em agosto daquele ano, começou a vida nova: terminou a temporada jogando pelo Vitória e, depois, fez 33 jogos e sete gols pelo Botafogo em 2015, com direito a título da Série B.

– Tive outras propostas, mas quando pintou o Palmeiras não teve nem o que pensar. É o maior vencedor de competições nacionais, um clube gigante, como diz o Zé. Eu quis fazer parte desse ano, que se Deus quiser vai ser inesquecível – completou.
