Manuel Lanzini stole the show against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend when the West Ham United midfielder’s stoppage-time screamer found a way into the top corner of Hugo Lloris’ net.

It was a strike that reminded everyone of the skill the Argentine once showed on a regular basis in east London, but Lanzini’s first Premier League goal since May 2019 also served as a stark wake-up call for how long it has been since the 27-year-old’s finest hours in claret and blue.

Only a few years ago, Lanzini’s talents secured his seat on the plane to the 2018 World Cup only for a serious knee injury sustained in training to rule the midfielder out of the competition without a ball being kicked.

The blow put a major dent into his West Ham career, while a fractured collarbone in November 2019 sent Lanzini back to the physio’s room for a further two months and his place in the side has never been a guarantee since.

Following David Moyes’ return to the London Stadium in December 2019, Lanzini saw out the league campaign with just six further starts from 11 appearances whilst failing to offer a single goal or assist and be left on the bench on eight occasions.

The new season came around, but new opportunities did not, with last weekend’s 3-3 thriller in north London serving as Lanzini’s first taste of top-flight action after four outings as an unused substitute.

Lanzini made good use of his brief cameo to steal the headlines in the dying seconds, and clearly left a positive impression on Moyes who has since come out in support of the 27-year-old.

“No doubt the injury has had an impact on where he is, but I don’t see a reason why he can’t get back to that level,” Moyes stated at his press conference on Friday, via quotes by the official West Ham website.

“I can see the improvement in training, he’s got competition and when you have competition the best thing you can do is what he did the other night.

“We’ve got really good competition for places at the moment and we want Manu to be a part of that because he has talent and we want talented players.”

Yet while Moyes is seemingly in support of Lanzini rediscovering his past form, it will take far more than just the Irons boss’ trust to see the five-cap Argentina international return to his best and once again display the talent that left Slaven Bilic stunned at how well he took to the Premier League. It was under the Croatian’s leadership that he played his best football, scoring 15 times and providing eight assists.

And speaking in November 2015, four months on from Lanzini’s initial arrival on loan from Al-Jazira, Bilic said via quotes by The Guardian: “I am only surprised that he hit it off straight away.

“I thought he was going to need more time because he played with al-Jazira. It is a good level, but you can’t compare that with the Premier League.

“He is a phenomenal player, who is very comfortable on the ball, no matter where he is and gives everything in every training session.”

Moyes will need to see that same determination in training to warrant starting Lanzini once more, as while his stunning strike at Spurs was special, it will only paper over the cracks seen in the midfielder’s game.

Lanzini only managed to create two big chances to score in the Premier League last season, while also spurning each of his three big chances to find the back of the net. Additionally, he only averaged 0.6 shots, 1.3 key balls, 18.5 accurate passes in the opponent’s half, 0.6 crosses and 1.4 successful dribbles a game, per SofaScore.

Now with Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma for competition in the attacking midfield line, Moyes will need more than the odd screamer to truly trust Lanzini.

O que consigo ver é a capacidade técnica, como funciona a parte de futebol e o que seria bom no meu conceito ideal de clube. E acho que há muito mais gente preparada hoje, mais estudada. Toda essa coisa política é difícil. O bom é na Europa, onde o dono implementa o pensamento – justificou.

O primeiro requisito para chegar à presidência no São Paulo é ser conselheiro. Para isso, é preciso ter oito anos como associado do clube, algo que Ceni já tem. Para, já no Conselho, ocupar o posto de vitalício, é preciso estar no quadro de sócios há 20 anos. Depois, é preciso estar inscrito em uma chapa para participar da eleição de conselheiros. Usualmente, elas são divididas entre situação e oposição. Já no pleito presidencial, a maioria simples (50% + um) dos votos do Conselho define o vencedor. São 240 cadeiras e não há quórum mínimo para a votação ser realizada.

A situação para contratar Rithely ficou ainda mais complicada para o Fluminense. Nesta quarta-feira, ao LANCE!, ovice de futebol do Sport, Arnaldo Barros, disse que a segunda proposta do Tricolor carioca pelo volante ficou muitoaquém dos interesses do Rubro-Negro pernambucano. A tendência é de que o acordo não saia.

– Acho muito difícil. O Fluminense fez uma primeira proposta formal, mas entendemos irrisória para o que representa o Rithely. Fizeram uma segunda proposta, desta vez apenas verbal, mas igualmente irrisória. Falamos que estava muito aquém do que ele vale. Nestes termos, não tem como. Depois, o Fluminense não entrou mais em contato – enfatizou.

Rithely foi uma indicação do técnico Eduardo Baptista, que trabalhou com o jogador entre 2014 e 2015. Com apenas 24anos, ele é visto pela diretoria do Sport como uma boa opção para fazer dinheiro ou até conseguir um outro atleta em troca. Inclusive, o volante renovou o contrato com o clube em agosto. O vínculo, inicialmente até o final de 2017, ganhou mais um ano. Agora termina no dia 31 de dezembro de 2018.

Para a posição no Tricolor, o técnico Eduardo Baptista tem Douglas, Edson, Jean, Pierre, Rafinha e Willian. Desses,Jean não deve permanecer. Edson e Rafinha também seguem com o futuro indefinido nas Laranjeiras.

Celtic may have unearthed a new Virgil van Dijk at Parkhead but this could spell trouble sooner rather than later.

Back in the summer of 2013, Neil Lennon secured the emerging Dutch prospect in a £2.6m move from Groningen with the Hoops chief claiming: “Delighted that we have acquired Virgil van Dijk… a highly talented young player.”

And boy did they sign a good’un. He went onto feature 115 times for the Scottish giants before earning a £13m switch to the Premier League.

Van Dijk soon continued his meteoric rise, becoming the most expensive defender ever when Liverpool splashed out £75m for his signature in late 2017.

This scenario could soon be repeated with the January transfer window soon on the horizon.

Kristoffer Ajer has enjoyed an impressive start to the season at Celtic Park, the 22-year-old has averaged 3.2 aerials won, 2.9 clearances and 1.5 tackles per game, via WhoScored.

His teammate Christopher Jullien believes he’s a “unique talent” who’s “on the rise” whilst assistant manager John Kennedy once dubbed him a “warrior”.

Lennon can count his lucky stars that they managed to keep hold of him despite their exit from the Champions League and amid interest from the Premier League and across Europe.

Ajer was mooted with a move away constantly throughout the summer window with AC Milan a name that frequently popped up. The likes of West Brom, Spurs and even the Premier League champions themselves were also linked with interest.

It certainly feels like another van Dijk situation is brewing here, perhaps even more so after well-earned comparisons between the two.

Speaking to Football Insider, Alex McLeish said: “He’s been an influential player for them. Running from defence, augment the attack and then it leads to a goal – these are inspirational moments and he is an inspirational, influential player for Celtic. He mentions [interest] he’s getting from top Italian teams then it tells you how far Ajer has progressed in the game. Like Virgil van Dijk, he came to Celtic and we all know what happened next.”

Whilst the similarities between van Dijk and Ajer’s playing style has previously been noted by the Herald too.

It’s surely a matter of time before the 6 foot 6 colossus earns a move to bigger and better things, and that should worry Peter Lawwell and co immensely as they’re going to have to open the chequebook to find a viable successor sooner rather than later.

There’s no doubting that England have a squad capable of going a long way at the European Championships next summer.

The World Cup semi-finalists have a plethora of exciting attacking talent that can cause any defence in the world problems, they have three of the most valuable players on the planet in Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane, while they can also call upon FWA Player of the Year Jordan Henderson and PFA Young Player of the Year Trent Alexander-Arnold in the midfield and at right-back.

However, one position that has been causing Gareth Southgate all sorts of headaches is left-wing-back.

Southgate has recently experimented with a five at the back system, but the biggest issue with that has been his lack of options on the left side, with the former Middlesbrough manager even opting to use a natural right-footer in Kieran Trippier there on a number of occasions.

Luckily, there may be a new option emerging down that side at Elland Road.

Indeed, Jack Harrison doesn’t necessarily play at wing-back for Leeds, but he does have a lot of defensive responsibility, and that means he could be moulded to play in that position.

The winger has averaged two tackles per game, a higher tally than two of England’s other wing-back options, Ben Chilwell and Luke Shaw, while his one interception per game is also higher than Shaw’s average.

Harrison certainly has the engine to get up and down the flank if he is asked to play as a wing-back, his fitness has to be second-to-none when playing under Bielsa in his intense all guns blazing system, and he could be a real asset for England.

Question marks understandably remain over whether or not he is good enough for England, but after being described as ‘exceptional’ on BBC Radio Leeds (Via TheBootRoom) on his Premier League debut, he may be able to take that step up.

Having him in the squad would also allow for some fluidity in the shape as he can play on the wing and in midfield, while we’ve already mentioned how good he could be as a wing-back.

Hopefully, this is something Gareth Southgate keeps his eye on.

وبينما قارن ألابا بين ناديه القديم والجديد، تجنب المقارنات مع أيقونة الملكي سيرجيو راموس الذي غادر إلى باريس سان جيرمان.

A diretoria do Corinthians ficou ainda mais animada com a possibilidade de contratar Marquinhos Gabriel após as declarações do presidente santista Modesto Roma Júnior que, na manhã de terça-feira, praticamente descartou a possibilidade de permanência do meia-atacante. O fim do empréstimo do jogador com o Santos, nesta quinta-feira, é um dos obstáculos. O outro é financeiro. O Al Nassr pede US$ 4 milhões (cerca de R$ 15,4 milhões) pela liberação definitiva do jogador – árabes não aceitam novo empréstimo.

A primeira pedra está a poucas horas de ser retirada do caminho. A segunda, no que depender da diretoria do Timão, não será problema. É isso mesmo. Ao contrário dos representantes do Peixe, os dirigentes alvinegros estão dispostos a desembolsar os cerca de R$ 15 milhões para contar com Marquinhos Gabriel.

Essa disposição chama atenção, já que o clube não vem tendo tal comportamento nos últimos anos. O valor que seria desembolsado para contratar o santista só não seria maior do que aquele gasto com Alexandre Pato em dezembro de 2012 (veja mais abaixo). Em relação as outras grandes cifras gastas pelo clube, por exemplo com Elias, Gil, Renato Augusto e Guerrero, o meia-atacante custaria mais (veja mais abaixo).

A transferência causou alvoroço no meio do futebol. E não apenas por se tratar da contratação de um jogador de um clube europeu por parte de sul-americanos, mas pelas cifras que foram colocadas sobre a mesa.
