You wouldn’t believe it if someone told you a couple of years ago, but Manchester United are apparently looking for someone to replace David De Gea.

The Spaniard has been out of form for some time now, and it seems as though the hierarchy at Old Trafford have lost faith in the former Golden Glove winner, and they already have a replacement in their sights.

What’s the story then?

Surprisingly, United aren’t going to look towards Dean Henderson to solve their goalkeeping problems after his impressive season at Sheffield United.

Instead, the Red Devils are reportedly after Leicester City stopper Kasper Schmeichel, and it’s hard to say that this wouldn’t be a great move.

Immediate hero

Aside from the fact that Schmeichel is a Premier League-winning goalkeeper who is certainly good enough to play for a top side, this deal, in particular, makes so much sense for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Nostalgia is a great factor in how fans view things, and United fans could very easily feel as though they’re back to their glory days if they have a blonde Scandinavian named Schmeichel between the sticks.

Fans should immediately have a lot of respect for their new man due to his dad’s achievements at the club, and with confidence being such a huge factor for a goalie, that support could help the Dane match or even surpass his father’s performances for the Red Devils.

Of course, there will be the worry of constant comparisons getting in his head, but that’s something he’s inevitably had to contend with during his entire career, and he’s coped very well so far.

The Old Trafford faithful would love Schmeichel before he even made his debut, and that could be a massive positive that comes alongside bringing him in.

Sheffield United are reportedly very close to the signing of Wigan Athletic’s Antonee Robinson, and the defender has spoken about his future following these reports.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo about leaving the Latics, Robinson said: “The main thing for me next season is I want to keep playing and keep doing well and performing. If it looks like I’m not going to start, it (Milan) might not be an option unless I’m not getting the offer to start elsewhere.

“My goal next season, no matter where I am and what I’m doing, I just want to play. We’ll just see what happens.”

It is understandable that he wants to play, he is 23 years-old and his performances have attracted interest from big teams like AC Milan. However at Sheffield United, there is a feeling that you have to earn your place in the squad, this is highlighted by the fact that Chris Wilder trusted many of the side that got the Blades promoted to play in the Premier League.

Even when players like Sander Berge signed in January, he wasn’t always guaranteed a place, and sometimes had to settle with the idea of coming on as a substitute, per Transfermarkt.

The positive for Blades supporters who are excited for the signing is the fact that with current left-back Enda Stevens 30, it will not be very long until Robinson would replace him, and if he did sign this summer and get a chance to impress sooner rather than later, then he would be rewarded with game time if he performed to the high standards of Wilder.

The fact is that when a Premier League side comes calling, especially with Robinson currently a League One player, he cannot afford to say no due to being worried about his lack of game time.

أكد جورجيو كيلليني قائد فريق يوفنتوس الإيطالي، أن تشيلسي ليس روميلو لوكاكو فقط، حيث يلتقي الفريقان غدًا وجهًا لوجه في إطار منافسات دوري أبطال أوروبا.

كما أشاد كيلليني بمدربه ماسيمليانو أليجري وقدرته على التأقلم رغم الإصابات، معلقًا على غياب النجم الأرجنتيني باولو ديبالا.

ويحل تشيلسي ضيفًا على يوفنتوس في ملعب “آليانز ستاديوم” بالجولة الثانية لدور المجموعات بدوري الأبطال.

فاز يوفنتوس وتشيلسي بمباراتيهما الافتتاحية بدوري أبطال أوروبا ضد مالمو وزينيت على التوالي.

وظهر كيلليني في المؤتمر الصحفي الخاص بالمباراة وقال: “كان من السهل التحضير للمباراة، المدرب أخبرنا بنفس الشيء، ستكون مباراة غدًا جميلة بقدر ما هي صعبة، لكنها أيضًا من أبسط التحديات التي يجب الاستعداد لها، ولا يمكننا الانتظار”.

وأضاف: “لم تستقبل شباكنا حتى الآن في دوري الأبطال، سيتعين علينا التحلي بالصبر والترابط، والاهتمام بالهجمات المرتدة، تشيلسي يلعب بشكل جماعي كفريق، لكنها من ناحية أخرى لعبة يمكننا فيها تقديم أداء جيد، ولدينا رغبة كبيرة في ذلك، وأعتقد أنه سيكون عرضًا رائعًا للجميع”.

واستطرد كيلليني: “نحن بحاجة لخلق مواقف لا يحبونها، ولا نسمح للاعبين العظماء مثل لوكاكو للتعبير عن أنفسهم، لوكاكو لاعب متكامل ورصيده التهديفي ليس من قبيل المصادفة، لذلك علينا أن نكون جيدين جدًا في عدم جعله يفعل ما يحب القيام به، والذي يكون مدمرًا لجميع المدافعين في العالم، لكن تشيلسي لا يملك لوكاكو فقط”.

وأكمل: “لديه فريق قوي للغاية، فريق حقيقي حيث جورجينيو هو منارة الفريق، ولكن بجانبه لديه لاعبون رائعون ولن يكون الأمر سهلًا”.

وتابع بشأن المنافسة في دوري الأبطال: “من مارس فصاعدًا، هناك العديد من المواقف من القرعة إلى الإصابات وشكل الفريق، في الوقت الحالي، لا يمكننا حقًا وضع خطط طويلة الأجل، ولكن نملك التركيز على حاضرنا والتحسين والعمل بجد، وندرك الطريق أمامنا ولكن أيضًا بصفاتنا، المنظور والوعي، وفي دوري الأبطال هدفنا الآن هو التأهل للدور التالي ثم سنرى”.

وأكد قائد يوفنتوس: “اللعب ضد الأفضل يتيح لك تقديم أفضل ما لديك، لا يمكنك النمو إلا من خلال لعب مباريات معينة، نحن بالتأكيد أكثر هدوءً مما كنا عليه قبل أسبوع، ولكن من ناحية أخرى، أعتقد أن دوري أبطال أوروبا هو لعبة في حد ذاتها تتجاوز ماهية البطولة والمشاكل التي ربما واجهناها في هذه المباراة الأولى”.

وشدد: “إنها لعبة محفزة ورائعة، وأنا أعول على فريق قوي بالتأكيد لم يفز بدوري أبطال أوروبا بالصدفة، بل عزز نفسه وبالتالي هناك رغبة كبيرة في القيام بعمل جيد للمنافسة واللعب بخصائصنا وبكثير من الاحترام، ولكن أيضًا مع الرغبة في لعب مباراة رائعة في ملعبنا ومواصلة دوري أبطال أوروبا بشكل جيد على أرضنا”.

وعن غياب ديبالا، أفاد كيلليني: “ديبالا لاعب ضروري بالنسبة لنا، لا يمكننا إنكار ذلك، نحن فريق لديه كل شيء، ونأمل ألا يغيب سوى عن مباراتين، ولدينا لاعبين جيدين للغاية يمكنهم تعويضه، لدينا خصائص ونتأقلم بدونه، إن إحدى نقاط القوة في أليجري هي البحث دائمًا عن حلول جديدة”.

وشدد: “الفوز سيساعدنا على النمو أكثر وسيكون مهمًا جدًا للترتيب، لكن يجب ألا نفقد توازننا أبدًا، سواء عندما تسير الأمور على ما يرام أو لا، سيكون الأداء مهمًا، نريد إظهار الصلابة والقوة والحماس”.

واسترسل كيلليني: “نحن بحاجة إلى إعادة اكتشاف الخيط المشترك الذي جلب لنا الصلابة وبالتالي احترام الذات، مما جعلنا نبقى على أعلى المستويات لسنوات”.

وعن ذكرياته مع مواجهة تشيلسي في عام 2012، أفاد: “في مباراة الذهاب كنا فريقًا وفي مباراة الإياب كانوا في لحظة غير إيجابية للغاية وكنا نكبر، لم تأت النتيجة 3-0 بالصدفة”.

وأكمل: “ثم إذا لم أكن مخطئًا، فقد تم طرد المدرب بعد فترة، الآن الوضع مختلف بعض الشيء، وهم يسيرون بقوة ونحن نتغير قليلًا، إنهما وضعان مختلفان ولا أعتقد أنهما يمكن مقارنتهما بغض النظر عن هذا، سنلعب مباراتنا بأفضل طريقة ممكنة”.

وسُئل كيلليني عن أسلوب أليجري وإذا كان تغير في فترته الثانية مع يوفنتوس، وأجاب: “مطالبه هي نفسها دائمًا، لكنها تتغير من مباراة إلى أخرى، يعتمد الأمر على اللاعبين أيضًا، فاللعب مع كوادرادو ليس مثل اللعب مع دانيلو، يعتمد الأمر على الخصم، لكن المبادئ العامة هي نفسها دائمًا”.

Make no mistake about it, Wednesday night was one of Celtic’s most humiliating defeats in European competition.

The Hoops suffered their earliest exit from the Champions League in 15 years as they were beaten by Hungarian top-flight champions Ferencvaros, meaning they will now drop into the Europa League’s third qualifying round.

Speaking after the game, Celtic boss Neil Lennon – who has come under fire for his team selection and tactics – was very critical of his players, even calling into question whether they wanted to be at the club.

He said: “We seem to have made the same mistakes as last year. I don’t know if it’s attitude or mentality but it’s cost us again. I’ll have to carry the can, and take the responsibility for it. I’m not saying Ferencvaros are a bad team – they’re not – but we had so much control we should have won. That doesn’t make us weak, it doesn’t make me weak, but people will cast aspersions.

When asked what message he would send to his players, Lennon responded: “Get your mentality right, get your attitude right. If some of you don’t want to be here, leave.”

One man whose attitude and desire can’t be questioned, but whose his performance certainly can, was Scott Brown.

For all the mistakes Lennon may have made with his starting line-up, including the baffling decision to not start with an out-and-out number nine, Celtic’s skipper badly let the side down with a deeply frustrating display.

As per Sofascore, his 6.9 match rating was the lowest of any outfield player for the Hoops, and when you look at the some of the numbers behind it, you can clearly see why.

Despite seeing his team dominate the ball – Celtic enjoyed a whopping 70% of the possession – Brown failed to attempt a single shot or dribble, not getting himself forward enough to unsettle Ferencvaros.

Whilst he was his usual tigerish self – he made three tackles and four interceptions – Lennon’s side desperately needed their captain to be far more adventurous with the ball at his feet.

His 93 touches was the highest of any midfielder or attacker on the pitch, but he could only provide one key pass in the 90 minutes – to put that into context, left-back Greg Taylor delivered six.

The Scottish Sun’s Robert Grieve wrote in his post-match ratings that Brown looked “nowhere near his best”, and that he “was almost trying too hard at times”. Celtic needed their captain to step up when needed, and he simply didn’t.

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur’s bid to move their Europa League tie with Lokomotiv Plovdiv to north London has been rejected, and the Bulgarian club’s owner has blasted their official ‘offer’ to rearrange the qualifier. 

Spurs gear up for a busy fixture calendar ahead of the 2020/21 season, including a Europa League qualifying round tie with Plovdiv in just under two weeks’ time – a match which the Lilywhites are due to play only four days after their opening Premier League game against Everton.

The tie is due to be held in Bulgaria, with Plovdiv given home advantage at their Lokomotiv Stadium, prompting Tottenham to try and rearrange the location for England due to a heavy run of fixtures.

As a result of Spurs’ attempts to move the game to London, Plovdiv owner Hristo Krucharski has slammed the English club ahead of the clash in mid-September, insisting that the match will be played in Bulgaria as scheduled and backing his team to overturn Mourinho’s side.

“There was an offer from Tottenham to play there. But I told them quickly that we don’t play for money but for pleasure,” Krucharski said, as per quotes from the Daily Star.

“We are Bulgarians. We have the chance to host this match here and the match will be played on Bulgarian soil.

“The miracle is clear. That we will beat them. We will beat them. The question is by how much.”

This could come as a blow for manager Mourinho and the Spurs squad, especially considering the flight path and travel time for a mid-week match before Tottenham are required to be action again the following weekend.

It’s likely that the Portuguese boss will heavily rotate his squad for the tie, potentially giving the likes of Jack Clarke, Cameron Carter-Vickers and fellow youngsters a chance to shine.

Club record signing Tanguy Ndombele, if he hasn’t been sold by then, could also be tested out as Spurs aim to overcome the Bulgarian minnows, whose owner is full of bombast ahead of the match.
