Leicester City: Fans find meme posted by club hilarious

Many Leicester City fans have responded on Twitter a meme of James Maddison’s celebration the other day, where he is lifted into the air by fellow centre back Caglar Soyuncu.

The Foxes faced Arsenal on Saturday evening, managing to further their gap on the Champions League spaces to nine points, and taking them to an impressive second spot in the league.

From their 12 games so far this season, they have won eight, drawn two and lost two, taking them to 26 points – nine points above fifth-placed Sheffield Wednesday; eight points behind leaders Liverpool. Indeed, Brendan Rodgers really couldn’t have asked for a much better start.

Facing struggling Arsenal was always going to be a good measurement of how far they have come, and whether they could dominate a top team when they are almost expected to.

They managed to fully live up to their expectations with a 2-0 win, and when James Maddison scored the second, his jubilant celebration was fully justified. Caglar Soyuncu could also be seen getting carried away as well, as he managed to lift his teammate Maddison high into the air – which was soon turned into a meme.

The club account tweeted the photo of Soyuncu lifting Maddison but put the background as the Lion King when Simba gets lifted by Rafiki.

Many fans loved to see the meme and responded with their positive messages – as you can read below…

West Ham fans stand up for Declan Rice after receiving England criticism

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice – who is valued at £45m by Transfermarkt – has once again been criticised for his performance in an England shirt, this time following a 4-0 win over Kosovo.Roy Keane’s condemnation of him before the game had even started was among the most scathing, as he said on ITV: “What he needs to improve, where do you want me to start? His positional play, I don’t think he’s been consistent enough, he doesn’t stay with runners, he’s sloppy in possession, I could go on.”This is the type of attitude that has been mirrored by plenty of England fans, however, ExWHUEmployee has given a contrasting opinion.

There were also many West Ham fans who joined the club insider in defending the 20-year-old, who has represented the Hammers 12 times this campaign.

Looking at his performance in England’s final Euro 2020 qualifier, it has to be said that some of Keane’s comments can be proven wrong, as a pass completion rate of 98% doesn’t point to a player who is sloppy on the ball.

He also made 1 tackle, 1 clearance and blocked 1 shot during the game, helping the Three Lions to a clean sheet.

A selection of Twitter reaction to the performance, including posts from defensive West Ham fans, can be seen below:

Liverpool: Fans buzzing as Timo Werner admits he’s been playing as ‘more of a false 9’

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting with huge excitement to something Timo Werner said recently, which seemed to imply he would be the perfect deputy for Roberto Firmino.

Jurgen Klopp’s transformation of Firmino into the ultimate ‘false 9’ has been extremely enjoyable to watch, and Reds fans suspect Werner might be next in line for similar treatment.

The German striker has been linked with a switch to Anfield recently, but for any striker to come and compete with Firmino for a place, they need to be able to do more than just score goals.

Werner has bagged a remarkable 12 goals in 12 Bundesliga showings this season, but it is his latest comment that has really caught the attention of the Anfield faithful.

“(Julian) Nagelsmann has said that I won’t be playing as an out and out striker for him as such, but more of a false 9,” he said, per One Football.

“It has encouraged me to improve & develop myself, even when we come up against oppositions that sit deep. He‘s helped me to make better use of space.”

Firmino is well-known for his tendency to drop deep into space, drag centre-backs out of position and supply chances for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, so the fact that Werner is doing this while also scoring plenty of goals is surely a good sign for those who want to see the 23 year-old on Merseyside.

Fans can hardly contain their excitement, with some offering up their finest GIFs, while others get the #Werner2020 hashtag fired up and ready to go…

Aston Villa fans react to Ian Wright’s Grealish verdict

The fiasco surrounding Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has been one of the biggest talking points in football in recent days.

In response to the controversy, it seems that every one has been quick to vocalise their opinion.

Some have taken the hard-line approach and condemned the 24-year-old’s actions, but BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright took a much more rounded view in his assessment of the situation while speaking to Radio 5 Live.

And his verdict, which included an anecdote about Grealish’s willingness to engage with Villa supporters, has been warmly received by fans on Twitter.

Indeed, much of the fanbase raved over Wright’s assessment of the situation, hailing his human touch and acceptance that everyone is capable of making a poor lapse in judgement.

One fan lauded the verdict as “top class”, while former Villa player Lewis Kinsella also offered a positive reaction.

Spurs fans react to fresh Diego Godin speculation

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting in their droves this weekend after the club was linked with Inter Milan centre-back Diego Godin once again.

According to Calciomercato, Spurs are prepared to return to their talks with the Uruguayan international this summer with Jose Mourinho seeing him as a potential replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who could be going the other way.

The 34-year-old has played 25 times for the Serie A giants this term, including in major games against Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League yet despite his glistening career, his arrival has seemingly split the fanbase in north London.

Godin is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt and still has two more years to run on his current deal so it remains to be seen what sort of fee Inter would command for their veteran defender should this interest materialise.

The 6 foot 2 star has been capped over 100 times on the international stage, has won two Europa Leagues, a La Liga and has also been a Champions League runner-up on two occasions, too.

Spurs fans react to Patrik Schick transfer report

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to reports linking them with a move for a forward they know all too well.

According to LaRoma24, Spurs are prepared to negotiate with Serie A outfit Roma for the transfer of Patrik Schick, who has been impressing out on loan with RB Leipzig this campaign.

Should the German side fail to take up their €29m option-to-buy, then Daniel Levy could be free to swoop in for the 24-year-old.

Schick was part of the squad that beat Spurs in the Champions League Round of 16 back in March, starting both legs, although he failed to get his name on the scoresheet.

He has, however, found the net seven times from 19 appearances in all competitions this season, which includes strikes against Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

The 6 foot 1 centre-forward has also picked up 22 caps with his national side, the Czech Republic.

Several members of the Spurs faithful would like to see Schick make the switch to the Premier League whilst others had their doubts given Levy’s infamous transfer history.

Tottenham Hotspur: Fans drool over Son Heung-min’s goal of the season award

Son Heung-min has been given the Match of the Day Goal of the Season award for his exceptional effort against Nick Pope in a Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ever since he arrived at White Hart Lane in 2015, Son has scored some phenomenal goals for Spurs over the years. As the speedy dribbler is best known for being a potent counter-attacking threat, it is fair to say his wonder goal during the 5-0 thrashing of Burnley is no exception to the rule.

The official Match of the Day account posted the announcement on Twitter and Tottenham fan page @LastWordOnSpurs shared the news with footage of the South Korean’s goal at home to the Clarets, a shot that put the game far beyond Sean Dyche’s men as Spurs entered the halftime break with a 3-0 lead. The 27-year-old danced through a number of opponents, including Robbie Brady and James Tarkowski, before thumping the ball past the helpless goalkeeper with a calm right-footed finish (The Guardian).

Jose Mourinho’s side went on to comfortably dispatch Dyche’s team thanks to further efforts from Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko, although Son’s solo strike understandably stole the show. Unsurprisingly, loads of Spurs fans drooled over the fan favourite’s award, with one supporter describing the “piece of individual genius” as “amazing,” and another adding “nice one Sonny.”

Transfer Window most likely shut for Premier League until late August

With the plans for the return of English Premier League football come some logistical issues about how business can and should be conducted in anticipation of the 20/21 season. Unlike other UEFA leagues like the cancelled Eredivisie, the Premier League is committed to finishing its 19/20 season, which throws delays into the existing cycle. Continuation both alleviates difficulties and gives rise to others, as bookmakers can stand on their season bets while the league is pressed to fit a significant amount of football into an ever more finite span of time.

Matches are intended to resume starting June 8th, behind closed doors and contained to a limited number of venues. The final 92 games of the season are expected to be completed on July 27th. This offsets the summer transfer window, originally scheduled to run from mid-June to September 1st. Now the next season is being lined up for a mid-September start, leaving only a marginal window open for transfer business to take place in the late summer.

The problems this timeline crunching brings to clubs brings football politics into a new arena. Smaller clubs have good reason to fear that wealthier clubs will take advantage of the unprecedented market upheavals to scoop up their top players with offers they are in no position to refuse. Manchester United’s manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has unabashedly relayed his intent to make the most of the unusual financial circumstances for the benefit of his lineup. It is expected that on this basis changes to the standard transfer system will be lobbied for by at-risk clubs.

An earlier proposed solution to this issue is the extension of the summer transfer window indefinitely. A flexible transfer schedule would then bleed into the normally scheduled January window, after which all playing fields would return to even. Further conversations with the UEFA will need to take place before any such solution is implemented. Like much of what a post-corona world will look like, how exactly the transfer window problem will be resolved, a pivotal issue for many clubs, remains very much up in the air.

Spurs would pull off masterstroke by signing Ruben Neves

According to Le10Sport, Tottenham are interested in signing Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves this summer.

What’s the word?

With the north London side heading into their first summer transfer window with Jose Mourinho in charge, all eyes will be on who the Spurs boss looks to bring in to reinforce his squad ahead of next season.

And according to French publication Le10Sport, Mourinho is eyeing up a move for Neves, claiming that the Lilywhites appear “only as the preferred track” for the midfielder.

Is it Mido or Pedro Mendes? This Spurs quiz will separate the loyal from the fake…

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

The Portugal international had been linked with a move to Manchester United back in January, but it now seems as though Mourinho is keen to beat his former club to the punch this time around.

Midfield maestro

Spurs’ interest in Neves is completely understandable, especially given that Mourinho sang his praises even when he was manager at United.

Speaking after a 1-1 draw with Wolves, he said of both him and Joao Moutinho: “They press in midfield, these two Portuguese boys, they are both the kind of player that likes to bite, that likes to short distance, to press, they don’t give long time for you to have the ball, to turn, one touch, two touches, you don’t have much of that.”

The 23-year-old has fully settled into life in English football and the Premier League, and has the kind of overall package that would fit in well at Spurs. As per Whoscored, he has averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 1.6 shots per game, and it points to someone who is capable of affecting the game at both ends of the pitch.

Perhaps other than Moussa Sissoko, the north London side don’t have the kind of midfielder who is capable of breaking up play inside his own half, before becoming a major threat at the other end. It’s no surprise that Luis Castro, former manager at Porto reserves, said: “Neves has extraordinary mental qualities, to go along with technical and tactical skills. He is a player who has the ability to read and understand the game, and then react.”

With Christian Eriksen departing for Inter earlier this year, Spurs lost a player who could turn a game on its head with a moment of magic. According to Understat, from the 2014/2015 season, out of the total 44 times he has found the back of the net, the Denmark international has racked up a staggering 20 goals from 0utside the box.

Neves is built in that similar mould of finding something out of the top drawer, with four out of his six Premier League goals coming from outside the area. Having someone who can unlock the tightest of defences by unleashing an effort from long-range can prove to be the difference-maker. It’s exactly why Spurs would be so smart in bringing him to the club this summer.

Glasgow Rangers: Fans react to latest court case news

Glasgow Rangers have had their problems with the SPFL in recent weeks and months.

It all started following the resolution proposal, after Dundee’s vote was first not registered, then changed. The Gers, who were adamant that the season should be finished on the pitch, accused the governing body of corruption, and then put together a 200-page dossier in an attempt to prove as much. They even pushed for an independent enquiry into the authority. That was eventually quashed, but the Ibrox outfit had already made their point.

They are not the only side who have been questioning the SPFL, though – Hearts and Partick Thistle are currently in court to contest their premature relegation to the Championship and League One respectively. On Thursday, the second day of the proceedings, the court was told that the public must hear about the governing body’s conduct and the Dundee vote during the case.

That has attracted the attention of the Gers supporters, and they have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts. You can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.
